Alvar Sirlin

is a native New Yorker who went to LaGuardia High School of Art in Manhattan and Rhode Island School of Design. He also studied art at Bard College, SVA, The Art Student’s League, The University of Buenos Aires, The Studio of Juan Carlos DiStefano and The Studio of Burton Silverman. He lives in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn and Montauk. He likes soccer, surfing, dancing, reading and dog walks.

After portrait painting he was looking for a new project.
He always loved pen and ink back since his illustration days and was just looking for things to draw when he drew a friend’s pet as a gift.

Drawing fur worked really well with black and white linear style of pen and ink and his grungy style also worked to capture the spirit of animals. They loved the drawing and he found it was an awesome way to keep making art that felt like it mattered.

That was about two years ago and he has done dozens of commissions since.
